  2.  I get a lot of mail from people outside the US who would like to get a
  3. copy of DOSREF but aren't sure how to arrange payment.
  4.  
  5. Payment can be made via the following:
  6.  
  7. 1)   Personal check, bank check, or money order in US dollars on a US bank.
  8.      Canadian check in Canadian dollars, on a Canadian bank.
  9.      UK check in UK pounds, on a UK bank.
  10.      Please: do not send Canadian checks in US dollars!  Use Canadian dollars.

  12. 2)   Canadian postal money orders payable in US dollars.
  13.  
  14. 3)   International postal money order.
  15.         Your local PTT may be able to issue United States Postal Money
  16.         Orders.  I've gotten several from France, so they may be available
  17.         elsewhere.  Note: while reliable, this tends to be slow.  It seems to
  18.         take about four weeks for them to get from Paris to St. Louis to me.

  20. 4)   US dollars, Canadian dollars, UK pounds - cash
  21.         You can sometimes buy foreign currency at a bank or airport at the
  22.         current exchange rate.  Fold the notes over with cardboard or
  23.         heavy paper.  You might wish to consider registered, certified,
  24.         or insured mail.  Tape the envelope shut.

  26. 5)   Traveler's checks payable in US dollars.
  27.  
  28. 6)   EuroCheques payable in UK pounds.  Please do not get Eurocheques in
  29.         US dollars or Canadian dollars - my banks cannot cash them!

  31. 7)   American Express credit card.
  32.  
  33. 8)   US stamps.
  34.         I will accept unused US stamps at face value.

  36. 9)   Spearwood Shareware Services.
  37.         Spearwood is a disk vendor in Australia.  They are authorized to
  38.         accept orders for DOSREF.  Australian registrants may consider them,
  39.         as they can take Australian checks, Mastercard, and VISA.

  42.  I have bank accounts in the USA, Canada, and England. If you can make payment
  43. in any of those currencies, everything's OK.
  44.  
  45.  If nothing above looks helpful, check with your local airport, US consulate,
  46. or a travel agency.  Someone there might be able to help you.

  48.  In INVOICE.TRF there are prices for US, Canadian, and Australian dollars,
  49. and in UK pounds.  I called my local bank, found out the exchange rates, and
  50. wrote down the prices.  As relative currency prices move around, you might
  51. get a really good deal or a bad deal.  If the exchange rate slides too much,
  52. just find the current rate for that many US dollars and send that.

  55. I can not accept:
  56.  
  57. 1)   Checks in US dollars, drawn on a non-US bank.
  58.         note:   US banks are all tied together on a big network. If you look
  59.                 at the bottom of a US check, you'll see a long row of numbers.
  60.                 This is a routing code, identifying the bank and the particular
  61.                 account.  The network does not recognize non-US banks, so
  62.                 although your non-US check is perfectly good, it cannot be
  63.                 cashed without going into "special services", which usually
  64.                 cost more than the face value of the check.
  65.  
  66. 2)   VISA/Mastercard/Barclaycard.
  67.         Not yet.  I'm working on it.  Spearwood Shareware Services in
  68.         Australia can, though.  See INVOICE.AUS.

  73. Addressing:
  74.         Please list your first name, last name, and COMPLETE mailing address.
  75.         Though your local postal service may accept packages with something
  76.         like "P. Hunter, Plymouth, England" and deliver them, sometimes Customs
  77.         will send improperly addressed packages back to me.
  78.  
  79.         If your country does not use Roman letters you may wish to enclose
  80.         return address labels in your language AND English - the US Postal
  81.         Service will not accept packages if they can't read the label.

  83.         If you provide an addressed mailing label with your order it will
  84.         help.  Sometimes it's hard to read some people's writing, and you'd
  85.         hate for your package to get delivered to the wrong place or returned
  86.         to me, right?

  89. Customs:
  90.         All DOSREF packages shipped outside the USA have the international
  91.         "CUSTOMS-DOUANE C 1" green sticker, with a declared value of one US
  92.         dollar and contents listed as "floppy disks".  Most customs inspectors
  93.         figure any floppy disk is worth a dollar, and the data is appraised
  94.         separately.  If you want the sticker to say something else, send a
  95.         note or filled-out sticker with your order.

  97. Postage:
  98.         All international orders go by standard US International Air Mail.
  99.         The US Postal Service is generally quite efficient, as are the
  100.         Canadian and UK PTTs, but the interface between them is run by
  101.         chimpanzees.  Maybe the mail sits around for the Customs people to
  102.         sift through; I don't know.  Some packages to Israel evidently
  103.         went to the Bermuda Triangle.  If you don't receive your order in
  104.         a reasonable time, send me a postcard or leave a message on the
  105.         support BBS, (501) 985-0059.

  107. Support:
  108.         30% of my registered users are from outside the US.  They get the
  109.         same support (BBS or mail) and upgrade notices as US users.
